Countback for Junior Open winner
Thirty juniors played in the Trentham Junior Open on Sunday October 21. Great course conditions and perfect weather greeted the field.
Blair Christie (Rich River Golf Club), playing off +1, repeated his 2017 win with a scratch score of 78, taking the Boys Scratch and the overall Open trophy. Blair has played at the Trentham Junior Open for three years, and finishes as a junior this year. Jazy Roberts (Belvoir Park), playing off 5, won the girls scratch trophy with 78, and only lost the overall trophy to Blair on a back-9 countback.
In the handicap sections, Mo Haintz (Mount Xavier GC) won the boy's section with an excellent 92-28=64. The star of the day however was the girl's handicap winner, Alicia Todd of Buninyong Golf Club, who stunned the rest of the field with 101-44=57.
The event was sponsored by the Trentham IGA and the Trentham and District Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank and we would like to thank them for their support. Corina Sabo, board member of the community bank, presented the prizes to the winners.

WOMENS 18-HOLE OPEN
Forty-two players competed in the 2018 Trentham Women's Open, played over 18 holes.
The winner of the Harry Barton Trophy for best overall handicap was won by Veronica Sullivan (Woodend) with a fine score of 87-19=68.
In the scratch grades, the A Grade winner was Cathy Heald (Goonawarra) 89, B Grade Veronica Sulllivan 87 and C Grade Pam King (Hamilton) 101.
Handicap winners were A Grade Mary Campbell (Broadford) 75, B Grade Kath Keating (Woodend) 74 and C Grade Pat Gilchrist (Gisborne) 77.
Nearest the pins were won by: 2nd Veronica Sullivan, 5th Veronica Maher (Trentham), 13th Christine Doherty (Mount Macedon) and 15th Pam Murphy (Goonawarra).

One hundred and six players competed in the 4BBB Stableford event on Wednesday October 24, played in cool but fine conditions.
In the mixed the winners were Ruth Iser and Fred Kath from Axedale with 41 points on a countback from Vicki and Mick Wilson (Ballarat GC).
There was also a countback in the women's section with Helen Claverdon-Jones and Julie Harris (Kyneton GC) beating Judy Thornton and Pam King (Hamilton GC), both finishing with 42 points.
The result in the men's section was slightly less dramatic with Garry Ford and Michael Hotchin (Trentham) finishing on 46 points, one clear of the runners-up Mark Fisher and Harold Moore (Trentham).

A full field of 112 players competed in the 4-person Ambrose on Friday October 26, with some remarkable scores achieved.
In the Mixed event, the scratch winners were the team of Deidre Lobb, Anne Hackett, Don Hackett and Chris Hanson with 64. The handicap winners were Claire Sutherland, Dianne Barnett, Simon Ovenden and John McCann with a nett 57 7/8.
The scratch winners in the women's teams were a local Trentham team of Sue Byrne, Veronica Maher, Helen Young and Di Lewis, finishing with 72. In the handicap section, the team of Susan O'Connor, Carol Connelly, Andrea Wilson and Deborah Kohlman had a nett 64 1/2.
The outstanding result for the day was the men's scratch winners. The team from Drummond Golf Niddrie, ably led by Chris Milverton with help from Peter Dundon, Dale Height and Keith Heard, finished with a very fine 56 off the stick, 14 under for the day. The men's handicap winners were Simon Sheedy, Jeremy Tripcony, John Fitzpatrick and Bob Briggs with 54 5/8.
The women's Nearest the Pin winners were 2nd and 13th Helen Young, 15th Loretta Matthews (no one made the 13th). Mens NTPs: 2nd Jack Conway, 5th Mark Britt, 13th Keith Heard and 15th Les Prendergast.

Saturday October 27 saw 48 pairs competing in the Men's and Mixed American Foursomes.
The scratch winners in the mixed were a couple from Axedale Golf Club, Linda and Jayden Andrea, who finished with an excellent 75. The handicap prize went to Trentham GC life members Dawn Hinneberg and Jim McCormack, who finished with 71 1/2.
In the men's section Simon Trickey and Stuart Anderson shot a 2-under par 68 to claim the scratch win, while Graeme Barr and Marty Walsh (Kooringal Golf Club) took out the handicap win with 65 5/8.

FULL FIELD IN TRENTHAM MENS OPEN FINISHES THE WEEK
Sunday October 27 was the finish to a very successful 2018 Trentham tournament week, with a total of 113 players competing.
Kyle Haase, winner of the George O'Hehir Cup for best 36-hole Scratch, and Alan Bate, winner of the Max O'Halloran Cup for best 36-hole handicap.
The best scratch score over 36 holes, and winner of the George O'Hehir Cup, was the defending Champion Kyle Haase (Midlands Golf Club) with rounds of 70 and 71 for a total of 141. Alan Bate (Ocean Grove Golf Club) was the winner of the Max O'Halloran Cup for the best nett score over 36 holes. Alan had rounds of 70 and 69 nett for a total of 139.
In B Grade scratch, Gary Johnstone (Belvoir Park) was the winner with 81-78=159, and in C Grade Peter Jaeger (Tocumwal Golf Club) won with 84-89-171.
Handicap winners were A Grade: Andrew Crosby (Eynesbury Golf Club) 72-75 =147, B Grade: Matt Smith (Kilmore Golf Club) 66-78=144, and C Grade: Alan Bate (Ocean Grove Golf Club) 70-69=139.
The morning 18-hole scratch winners were A Grade: Kyle Haase 70, B Grade: Matt Smith 75 and C Grade: Marc Merigan 83. Morning 18-hole handicap winners were A Grade: Ray Bonnici 71, B Grade: Ray Pentony 71 and C Grade: Peter Jaeger 71.
In the afternoon 18-hole scratch, winners were A Grade: Kyle Haase 71, B Grade: Gary Johnstone 78 and C Grade: Jake Prewett 68. In the afternoon 18-hole handicap, winners were A Grade: Craig Boucher 73, B Grade: Michael Sutton 71 and C Grade: Alan Bate 69.
